New Perspectives in UAP Studies from the Old Continent
New technologies evolving ever faster have given a new impulse to our field of study on both sides of the Atlantic.
Ufology in 46 different European countries (speaking dozens of different languages) has had different development for a long time. Communication difficulties brought a great variety of approaches and initiatives, which have only begun to integrate together in recent decades.
Some of those original initiatives, ongoing activities, or planned projects from the Old Continent include augmented reality tools for field investigation, cognitive psychology interview techniques, new software packages specifically devised for UFO photo analysis and automated IFO identification, case classification by text mining and machine learning, new integrated systems for automatic sky monitoring & UAP detection, massive digitization of UFO literature, search engines for specialized bibliographies, A.I. tools for archival purposes, UFO ChatBots.
Bio:
Edoardo Russo got an M.A. in Economic Sciences at the University of Torino in 1984 and is presently a professional consultant.
Actively interested in UFOs since his teen years, he has been involved in local and national organizations and publications, notably Clypeus Group (1976-), Centro Ufologico Nazionale (CUN, 1978-1985, Regional Coordinator, then Board member and Foreign Relations Officer), Centro Italiano Studi Ufologici (CISU, 1985-, formerly Chairman, currently Secretary). Since 2000 he has been one of the coordinators of EuroUfo.net. Since 2023 he has been a Board member of the UAP Check international initiative.
After subscribing to MUFON Journal (then called Skylook) in 1975, he was appointed MUFON Italian representative in 1989, and later National Director in 2012.
Over those years, he investigated a few hundred sightings, and he wrote a few hundred articles and some books, notably the Field Investigator’s Manual (1984 and following editions) which was adopted by both national organizations in Italy. Apart from public talks and congress papers in his own country, Edoardo has been a speaker organizer in international UFO congresses (in Austria, Belgium, France, Switzerland, and the UK) since 1979.
More recently, he was involved in the organization of CAIPAN-2 (the scientific seminar held by the official UFO study group of the French National Space Center in Toulouse, 2022) and was asked to do the presentation about “UAP Historical European Context” at the UAP meeting hosted at the European Parliament on March 20, 2024.
